PROJECTS

Metal
Metal |Redneck Portraits

The redneck portraits constructed from scrap metal; collaged and spot-welded together. Working with discarded metal pieces reminds me that our identities are made from recycled pieces that we collect along our journey.

My journey includes growing up in southern Alberta with my father's metal shop in Crossfield. This is an ongoing project, I have a collection of 30+.
Drawing
Drawing | The Scroll| Eyelands| Facemasses

The scroll was a test of discipline and automatic drawing within structure. I drew two feet per day on a roll of recycled paper. Once I got to sixty feet, I added bits of gold leaf every 4-5 feet to add autonomy. Patterns, people, creatures and text are interwoven to completely fill evey inch of paper. Eyelands evolved from taking eye doodling to the next level. The eyes started to form into a landmass and take on a life of their own. Facemasses grew from the same concept as Eyelands; group vs. individual identity.
Painting
Painting |Portraits, Places and Mandalas

Some characters are inspired by friends and family, others are manifestations of different aspects of my psyche. The places are inspired by imaginary fairytale lands, some are inspired by places I would like to go.

Mandalas are a subject I come back to regularly to help center myself. Working with seniors and children, I saw how insightful Mandala's can be as a therapeutic tool.

Collage
Collage | Denim| Acrylic paint | Magazine images

I enjoy using unorthodox and lowbrow materials. Collage is one of my favourite methods of making art. It reminds me that we are all collages. We are pieced together by DNA, experiences and different circumstances. I like to repurpose words the same way I repurpose material. What is in our genes/jeans?

Great gift idea - 1st year wedding anniversary collage commemorating your wedding with left-over supplies.
